Juventus star Weston McKennie has suffered a setback in his recovery from a knee injury, with the England international now out for at least another few months.
McKennedy was called up to the squad for their last pre-season friendly against Roma on Sunday, but he did not feature and was ruled out of action for six weeks.
The 27-year-old had been training regularly before the match, which saw him play a key role in a 1-1 draw with Genoa, but the knock meant that he could no longer take part in any further training sessions.
McKennedy is currently undergoing rehabilitation at the Juventus medical centre in Turin, where he will be monitored closely by doctors and physiotherapists. He has undergone several surgeries to repair ligaments and tendons in his knee, including a removal of a bone spur in his patella (the ball of the knee).
However, it is unclear when he will be able to return to full fitness and if he will be able to continue playing for the club.
Juve boss Carlo Ancelotti said: "It is difficult for us as a team, especially with the current situation,Campeonato Brasileiro Direct to know what the future holds. But we are hoping that Weston can be back in our team next season."
The Italian giants have already made several changes to their squad this summer, bringing in some new signings such as Gianluigi Donnarumma, who impressed during the World Cup, and Alessandro Del Piero, who is also set to join from Inter.
The club has also announced that they have secured a deal for striker Romelu Lukaku, who is expected to join from Chelsea in the transfer market later this month.
With so much talent in the Italian league, it remains to be seen how well they fare in the upcoming season. However, there is still plenty of hope that the star player from Manchester United can bring something special to the table for Juventus.
